Sbarro Assystem City Car, a curious hybrid design

sbarro-assystem-0Looking for any of the angles I still have a car that is clear or that this “complicated” design can roll on nearby highways. Is far from this moment and I doubt they materialize outside vehicles with these features, because aerodynamics is one way but we have seen that can be combined with elegance.

The Sbarro Assystem City Car is just another creation of the Swiss Franco Sbarro, who is to be assigned other works of art designed on models like the Citroen Cruiser Crosser or Jumpy Atlante. Far from unique design exercise conducted in these prototypes, the City Car is another way to interpret the concept of ecological and hybrid model also trying to solve traffic problems simultaneously other current and parking.

sbarro-assystem-1The design steeped in the City Car is not very orthodox at first glance but due to issues of resistance, aerodynamics and lightness, as it only weighs 600 kg. Its dimensions (3.6 meters high, 1.6 wide and 1.6 high) are also initially quite small for what we’re used to seeing in terms of new releases, especially if we consider that is designed to carry five people.

Even the smallest point has been made to the millimeter to reinforce some characteristic of the vehicle. For example, the platform is designed to maintain a center of gravity very low while the front oval can accommodate much of the force produced in a plane front. On the other hand, furnishes a system that projects images of the road on the windshield using infrared to guide the driver, day or night indifferently, toward his destiny.

sbarro-assystem-2It is in the distribution of the wheels and mechanics where the City Car is highlighted. Instead of using two axles with two wheels on each, distributes all four wheels on three areas: a front wheel, two central and rear, with being the extremes of the drive and steering. The first wheel is connected to an electric motor of 27 HP, willing to travel at 50 km / h maximum, with a range of 30 km. Sufficient for the usual short urban trips.

The two wheels Central maintains the stability of the vehicle while the wheel of the rear axle is used to push through a petrol engine of 60 hp. Lets drive at a speed of 130 km / h during a cruise up to 600 km through a tank of 30 liters of fuel.

Sbarro intends to put on the street this model, though I imagine that after careful adaptation to the regulations of each country. Still, it loses the essence of his mobility seems an excellent choice for the low consumption that has all views and the ease that your wheels will give the maneuver spaces.
