Mazda Motor Company has made available to journalists the first images of the forthcoming second generation of its popular small compact sedan, the Mazda 3. Its launch is expected next summer, so in 2009, but it did not stop him being vintage 2010. So goes the marketing in the wonderful world of automobiles. The vehicle in itself astray is in great pomp to the Los Angeles Auto Show on 19 November.

The features of the new small sedan is clearly refreshed, but overall, we can not say that the silhouette changed that much. The new features, them, also borrowed a bit to the Mazda 6, which is revisited by Mazda engineers a few months ago. These two models are the bread and butter of the Japanese manufacturer. Under the hood of the new small sedan (hatchback model will not be presented without doubt going to be wait a bit to show more of that later), the displacements are also proposed revised. Not surprisingly, true to its motto (”driving pleasure”, for what it means, really …), Mazda adds a little muscle to the two lifts. The basic two liters should retain its current size, but still generate a dozen more horses than the current model. The 2.3-liter, it should be enlarged to 2.5 liters. Not surprisingly, this will probably be the same four-cylinder already offered in the Mazda 6.

And while talk of sharing components, are mentioned in passing that this compact uses an architecture developed by Ford for the Focus C1. The Mazda 3 is slightly longer and slightly wider than the current model.

Despite these revisions, the direction of Mazda ensures that the fuel consumption of Mazda 3 will be reduced on this new model. The introduction of an on-off device that turns off the engine when the car is stationary (at red lights, for example) might be in order to deliver the goods on this side. We’ll see in LA.

Note that the visual signature of the Mazda 3 should become the new standard in the design of new products for Mazda. Several other models in the range are very close to this stage in their life cycle, they must be renewed. The RX-8, for example. We’ll see what it will give.
