1997 Ford Taurus

Ford TaurusBoldly redesigned in 1996, America’s best-selling car moves into the 1997 model year with styling that has taken some consumers a while to get used to. Ford has promoted acceptance of the new oval-inspired design with rebates and the introduction in February, 1996, of the Taurus G—the line’s entry-level model with an MSRP just under the $18,000 price point. At the top of the line, the SHO (Super High Output) model continues to stake the claim to being “the most affordable performance V8 sedan” on the U.S. market.

The 1997 Ford Taurus is available in four models: G, GL, LX, and SHO. Safety features include dual airbags, side-impact protection, child safety locks, and an optional anti-lock brake system (ABS), standard on the SHO. The G and GL models come standard with a 3.0-liter 145-horsepower V6, a 4-speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, and tinted glass.

The LX upgrades with a 200-horsepower Duratec V6 engine, aluminum wheels, automatic on/off delay headlights, an anti-theft system, and power door locks. The performance-oriented SHO gets a 3.4-liter 235-horsepower V8, rear spoiler, 16-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and body-color front and rear bumpers.
